David P. Shields, Jr. serves as Senior Director of Advocacy and External Relations at West Michigan Partnership for Children (WMPC), where he leads efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships, community engagement, and systems advocacy in support of children, families, and meaningful child welfare reform. A respected leader, educator, and connector, David brings more than 25 years of executive leadership and higher education experience, alongside over 30 years of leadership within nonprofit and community-based organizations dedicated to improving outcomes for individuals and communities.
Throughout his career, David has been deeply committed to building collaborative relationships, advancing community-centered solutions, and fostering systems that create lasting, positive change. His experience includes more than 25 years serving as Chief Student Affairs Officer at several universities, where he championed student success, organizational leadership, and community engagement.
Grounded in a lifelong commitment to service, David’s leadership reflects a strong belief in the power of partnership, advocacy, and collective action to strengthen communities and improve the lives of children and families.
