WMPC’s Anti-Racist Statement

WMPC’s Anti-Racist Statement

WMPC joins our community in grief, frustration, and outrage as we process the traumatic deaths of George Floyd, Amhaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and too many others who have been victims of violence because of the color of their skin. This is what a culture of historical and systemic racism looks like, and it needs to change now.

These violent and racist acts tear at the threads that tie us together. We know the path towards resilience is our connection, which has been so strongly displayed by the peaceful protests. We are in support of all those united in seeking change.

We live in a world where people of color cannot exist without experiencing racism and violence, where black men are disproportionately represented in our prison system, and where children of color are overrepresented in the child welfare system.

This is against WMPC’s vision of “a community of belonging, resiliency, and hope where children and families flourish.” As such, we have a responsibility to call out injustices when we see them so we can work towards a culture where everyone has an opportunity to thrive. For us, this looks like disrupting racism in all forms, especially as it shows up in policies and practices that perpetuate racial inequities in foster care. It looks like doing our work to create and sustain a culture of inclusivity within our organization. This also includes creating spaces that honor and value voices, lives, and experiences of those who are oppressed.

We are committed to continued unlearning and learning as we grow in our identity as an anti-racist organization and to the fight for racial equity and justice. We hope you will join us in working towards belonging for all.
